KJM Group Ltd sponsored Wherwell were away to Old Basing II for the last game of the season. Skipper S Taylor won the toss for the 2nd time this season and Wherwell elected to bat first.
The top order showed good composer with notable scores Stuart Taylor (81), putting Wherwell in a comfortable position cemented further by Alex Gladwyn’s (46) steady knock. Runs trickled through as wickets were slowly picked off by Old Basing II, walking off with 236 for 8.
Wherwell have not walked out to bowl this season with any doubts or lows – spirits as always were high to tie off the season positively. Wherwell kept Old Basing II on the backfoot throughout and kept the home team to a painfully low run rate. Notable performances S Taylor 9o 13r 2w, R Skeates 7o 23r 2w and Ollie Emslie 10o 18r 4w. Jug avoidance was not an issue with 5 catches.
Old Basing II stretched it out for Wherwell all the way reaching just 115 for 9. Wherwell won by 121 runs. Stuart Taylor finished his season scoring 749 runs.

KJM sponsored Wherwell played at home against promotion rivals Ramsdell in a crucial match that would decide either teams’ chances of going up this season. S Taylor lost his 11th toss for the season and was put out to bat on a mildy damp wicket.
Ramsdell had an impressive bowling attack with a double wicket maiden in the 6th over having Wherwell on the back foot. R Skeates showed patience early on but wickets tumbled through Wherwell’s usually dominant batting order leaving R Chetwynd-Talbot top scorer with 11. Not much to be said other than great bowling and fielding performances by the away team.
Wherwell were all out for 61 off 28.
The home team were up for a quick turn around and were eager to take the challenge on. Show no love has been the motto all season and stunning performances of bowling and fielding had Ramsdell 32 for 4 off 17. N Young took a tremendous diving running backwards catch off M Guilfoyle off the batsman that was just saved by the jam pot. At this point Wherwell had quickly picked off their top order but as the wicket dried with the sun shining, it was a quick fire 21 by their middle order that settled their nerves and took them to victory. Notable performances are S Taylor 7o 2w 17r, R Chetwynd-Talbot 8o 0w 16r and M Guilfoyle 3.5o 3w 14r.

KJM sponsored Wherwell played at St Cross on a gloomy day and skipper S Taylor lost the toss again and was put out to bat on a mildly damp wicket.
Incredible performances by the top order kept Wherwell flying high gunning for promotion. R Skeates and G Elwes gave Wherwell the steady start they needed, but after 15o R Skeates had enough and started pummelling. Whippersnapper Elwes enabled the top order and handed the baton to S Taylor who quickly picked up 104 peaking the run rate above 10 at one point before being bowled but leaving his side in a strong position of 237 for 2 off 27. R Skeates continued the plough and scored 118 with a surprising amount of cardio. A Gladwyn (26), M Guilfoyle (3no) and N Young (1no) saw the away team through to finishing 302 for 4.
Clear blue skies for Wherwell going out to bowl and maximum points were wanted. O Emslie started St Cross IV’s topple with two stump flying wickets while the others followed in quick succession. S Taylor 8o 3w 18r, O Emslie 10o 2w 26r, M Guilfoyle 5o 2w 13r, H Trebert 6.3o 2w 19r and N Young 5o 1w 14r.
With yet another win under their belt during an incredible season of tremendous team work, Wherwell still need to fight and show no love for their final two games to be in for winning the league and/or promotion.

Stuart Taylor lost another toss and were put into bat on a two-paced wicket. The Wherwell batsmen definitely got their cardio workout due to the slow outfield. All the batsmen got starts however no one was able to fully capitalise on their start. Robbie Skeates top scored with 32 runs, Nathan Young scored 24 runs and Harry Trebert scored 23 runs. R Simpson took 4 wickets for Medstead to keep Wherwell’s innings in check.
Wherwell’s bowlers made easy work of the task at hand, bowling Medstead out for 68 runs in 27.4 overs. Richard White top scored with 48, however It would have been an even bigger margin had Robbie Skeates held onto a dolly at square leg when Richard White picked him out when he was on 7 runs. Highlight of the innings was the 4-wicket spell from Stuart Taylor. Nathan young took 3 wickets and the rest were shared between Oliver Emslie and Matt Guilfoyle.
Wherwell played at home against Alton III’s and skipper S Taylor lost the toss and was told to bat.
Wherwell’s batting gave Alton a strong reply to their choice to bowl first. R Skeates (17, lbw), S Taylor (60, ct), R Chetwynd-Talbot (20, runout), O Emslie (31, bowled) and J Trebertt (17, not out). Alton III’s gave 29 extras to Wherwell giving the home team a reasonable 201 to defend. M Guilfoyle was the only batsmen to not score runs.
The target to defend 201 rapidly turned into yet another strong fielding attack by Wherwell, with notable performances by H Trebert 5.4o 15r 3w, S Taylor 10o 32r 3w, R Chetwynd-Talbot 10o 21r. N Young and M Guilfoyle took a wicket each. M Guilfoyle took a catch like a salmon heading up stream.
Alton III were all out for 124 giving Wherwell another win. Wherwell have shown no love in the field this year and continue to show their strengths as a team under pressure.

Sparsholt won the toss and elected to bat. Missing many of the regular players, Wherwell’s makeshift attack restricted Sparsholt to 166-5 in 45 overs on a belter of a wicket. Stuart Taylor and Alex Gladwyn took 2 wickets each and Nathan Young took the other. The highlight of the innings was 61 runs scored by A Gough. Wherwell fielding deserve a special mention, for their hard work in the sweltering heat. Chairman Young stated “I died in the field and took 4 balls to reply to a question… as I couldn’t get my breath back.”
With the sun beating down, Wherwell showing no love chased the target down in 27 overs. Jordan Trebert was sent back early in the 3rd over for 5 runs . Coming in at 3, Stuart Taylor shared a 109 run partnership for the second wicket. Alex Gladwyn and Stuart Taylor finished off the chase. S Taylor played a blinder of an innings and scored his second hundred of the season, he finished on 107 not out. Taylor also owes a drink or two to an unnamed Sparsholt player, who dropped him on 99.
Wherwell and Liphook & Ripsley II played at Wherwell for an incredibly close game of cricket.
Wherwell lost the toss and were put to bat against a strong bowling and fielding attack. A wonderful crisp wicket also gave an interesting strip for Wherwell. An unnamed Wherwell player gave a rapid trigger finger making R Skeates LBW early on. The attack by the away team continuously tested Wherwell making S Taylor the top scorer with just 26. Excellent bowling performances by Liphook & Ripsley II toppled Wherwell’s batting, D Elliot 10o 22r 3w, D Wrenn 10o 36r 2w and A Grimes 8o 30r 2w. Wherwell’s new stumps were truly knocked in. Wherwell were all out for 132 off 41.3o.
Clear blue and sun shining, Wherwell had not given up. Show no love and Wherwell went out to attack the field with high energy and were determined to give Liphook & Ripsley II a fight. Textbook catches win matches as J Trebert demonstrated. Liphook & Ripsley II’s game was starting to look different as Wherwell’s N Young 10o 24r 4w, S Taylor 10o 37r 2w, O Emslie 10o 21r 2w and M Guilfoyle 9o 24r 1w. Wherwell had them on the back foot throughout the innings and gave them the away team a fight, but 133 was chased off 42.3o for 9w.

Wherwell won the toss and put Basingstoke into bat. Oliver Emslie finished top wicket taker with 3-31, Mark Pettman and Matt Guilfoyle returning from their premature retirements took 2 wickets each, Stuart Taylor and Alex Gladwyn shared the rest.
Chasing 154 to win, Wherwell batted well, Matt Guilfoyle finished things off with 3 consecutive boundaries in the 38th over. John Foster and Alex Gladwyn chipped in with some invaluable runs. This performance takes Wherwell to 4th in the table.

On the warm summers day, Oakley CC won the toss and decided to bat first.
G Dique and D Somner opened for Oakley, and started fluently amidst some decent bowling by O Emslie and H Trebert. S Taylor got the first wicket with a D Somner playing onto his stumps for 18. H Trebert soon got the second bowling M Wood for a duck leaving Oakley 49 for 2 off 10 overs. G Dique carried on the scoring alongside A North, then C Morris, before being bowled by N Young for 56, leaving Oakley 129 for 5. Oakley looked to score quickly with B Compton scoring a quick-fire 42, before being bowled by O Emslie. Some lower order hitting helped Oakley reach 226 for 9. N Young finished with 4-50, S Taylor, O Emslie and H Trebert took the rest.
Wherwell opened with familiar duo of R Skeates and C Beckingham. T Barnes removed Beckingham early for a duck, leaving Wherwell 5-1 in 4 overs. In came S Taylor, who took the attack to Oakley, with a 33 ball 50, Along with R Skeates, they put on a 110-run partnership, before R Skeates was bowled by Somner for 30. J Foster came in next but was sent back for 5. S Taylor carried on the scoring and quickly reached his hundred, A Gladwyn joined the fun and played some good shots. With the victory in sight, S Taylor on 146 runs, finished it off with a 6 to win Wherwell the game with 8 overs spare. S Taylor played a faultless innings to lead Wherwell to their 4th win in a row. Result leaves Wherwell 5th in the league.

On a green wicket Wherwell won the toss and elected to bowl. S Taylor and O Emslie started the proceedings but found no assistance early on, however the first change H Trebert struck early on removing the Rowledge opener with an inswinger. N Young joined in the party and ripped apart the Rowledge batting line up. S Taylor and O Emslie came back on cleaned up the tail ending the Rowledge innings on 111 all-out. S Taylor & N Young took 3 wickets each, H Trebert and O Emslie shared the rest.
Wherwell opened up with R Skeates and C Beckingham. C Beckingham started strong hitting 2 fours in the second over. But unfortunately, he lost his wicket for 9 to a full toss by T Watt leaving Wherwell 12 for 1. S Taylor came in next and alongside R Skeates took Wherwell to the finish line within 18 overs. S Taylor 49 not out and R Skeates 52 not out. Highlight of the innings was the stroke-play displayed by both batsmen, especially R Skeates who hit 4 boundaries off one over as he established his dominance over the Rowledge bowlers.
